What is a fitting laptop for college student?

going rotten to college next year and looking for a topical laptop but not sure which one would be good. what brands are apt? no macs though i personally do not close to them. from what i have looked at so far i know i want one beside a Intel Core 2 Duo processor, 2G DDR, at least a 100 GB easier said than done drive (would 5400 or 7200 rpm make a big difference?) the Gateway MT6831 Notebook looks pretty flawless to me but is it a good brand? what almost sony, ibm, compaq, hp, toshiba?

Answer:

I would definately recommend Apple, Sony, and toshiba computers. hp is terrible! (I own one, and it works a lot worse than Apple sony or toshiba)

Good Luck on buying a computer!
NO. no turn with the apple. DDR is technology from five years ago. Go near DDR2 only its 30% faster. Go beside a Dell, or Toshiba. Bigger the hard drive the better, 100gb is right but if you like to listen to music and activity that should be the bare minimum. 7200 is better than 5400. Its worth the extra 50 or so bucks especially when you concrete drive gets crowded. Gateway is poop don't gain them. Sony no not really. IBM sure they are good but can be vastly heavy. HP is also exceedingly good. Get 2gb of RAM.

Have fun at college!
I detest apples too. So i would recommend a compaq, hp, but mostly dell. I would go next to a:

processer: Intel Core 2 Duo

Memory:2 Gigs

Hard Drive:150-200 Gigs

I would chose those personally (if i have the money lol).

Hope it helps
